The Potter League serves as the animal shelter for Newport County, Rhode Island, dedicated to promoting the humane treatment of all animals while offering shelter and care for lost or unwanted companion animals. We provide refuge for unaccompanied companion animals and work to find them safe and healthy homes. Our organization focuses on educating the community about humane principles and the best practices for pet care. We also offer community support programs designed to help pet owners enhance the quality of life for their animals. Adoption process

The Potter League invites all individuals interested in adopting a shelter animal to participate in our adoption process. We recommend that prospective adopters complete a questionnaire detailing the type of companion animal they are looking for. The information gathered from these questionnaires, along with evaluations from our staff, helps our adoption counselors match each adopter with a pet that fits their lifestyle. Adoption Fees: - Dogs: $300 - Puppies (6 months and under): $425 - Cats: $150 - Kittens (6 months and under): $225 - Rabbits: $50 - Other Small Animals: $20 to $65 We provide a 10% discount on adoption fees for military members (both active and veterans) and seniors aged 65 and older. The adoption fee covers the following: For dogs and cats: An ID tag, a certificate for a veterinary exam within 14 days of adoption (valid at participating veterinarians, strongly recommended), and any available medical records. For dogs: One month of crate rental, a discount on a basic obedience class, and complimentary admission to Doggy 101. For cats: A safety collar and a cardboard carrier.
