Paws Watch in Newport, RI

Paws Watch is a volunteer nonprofit animal shelter based in Newport, Newport County, Rhode Island, founded in 1997 to help Rhode Islanders provide spay/neuter services and vaccinations for feral, homeless, free-roaming, stranded, and abandoned cats. It operates a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) center that serves as a recovery stop for community cats after surgery, along with a Trap-Neuter-Return-Monitor (TNRM) program and a Working Barn Cat Program that places adoptable barn cats—already spayed/neutered, vaccinated, wormed, and flea-treated—into homes needing rodent control. Since its founding, Paws Watch has helped fund spay/neuter and veterinary care for over 25,000 feral, stray, abandoned, and free-roaming cats across Rhode Island. Three other animal shelters or rescues also serve Newport County, and Paws Watch is located about 15 miles north of Warwick, RI.

Adoption process

Fill out an online application to be considered as an adopter; visits to see the cats are by appointment only, and applicants are contacted only if chosen, with an adoption donation of $240 covering spay/neuter, vaccinations, testing, flea preventative, and microchip.
