The Humane League of Lancaster County is dedicated to creating an exceptional community for animals. We achieve this through our innovative and life-saving programs. As a shelter, our mission extends beyond simply finding new homes for homeless animals; we also focus on addressing the pet needs of our community. This includes initiatives such as Spike's Pet Pantry, which provides pet food assistance, Safe Haven for temporary emergency housing, and low-cost veterinary clinics and services. I have been with Humane Pennsylvania, the parent organization of the Humane League, for over five years. I started my journey as an Adoption Counselor, where I primarily assisted clients with issues related to strays, surrenders, and adoptions. Currently, I serve as the Donor and Alumni Relations Coordinator. In this role, I cultivate donor relationships, acknowledge donations, manage social media, and perform various other tasks as needed. I find my work to be incredibly fulfilling and rewarding.

Adoption process

The initial steps of our adoption process involve completing an adoption interest form, submitting a photo ID and proof of address, and meeting the animal. If the potential adopter wishes to proceed and take the animal home, they will be required to sign various waivers related to surgery, behavior, and medical aspects, as well as the adoption contract. Adoption fees vary based on the animal's age and must be paid at the time of adoption. Additionally, individuals adopting a cat are required to either purchase or bring a cat carrier for safe transport, while those adopting a dog must provide a leash and collar for the dog's transportation.

Service area: We primarily offer our services in Berks and Lancaster counties, with a particular emphasis on the cities of Lancaster and Reading.
