Lucas County Canine Care & Control is a dog rescue located in Toledo, Ohio, about 1 mile northeast of the city center, and is one of 10 animal shelters and rescues serving Lucas County. The department handles stray and homeless dogs and enforces dog laws throughout Lucas County, including Toledo, Maumee, Oregon, Sylvania, Waterville, Holland, and Whitehouse, managing roughly 300 dogs each month. It is funded primarily through dog license purchases, which support the care of homeless and stray dogs, protect the community from loose and dangerous dogs, and help reunite lost dogs with their owners. Beyond sheltering, it offers services such as a dog food pantry, low-cost vaccine clinic, foster and transfer programs, and owner surrender assistance.

Visit the Canine Care Center in downtown Toledo during adoption hours, meet the dog(s) you're interested in with all family members (human and canine) present, and pay a $100 adoption fee plus a $25 Lucas County dog license; a 14-day Foster-to-Adopt trial is also available before finalizing.
