Living Free Animal Sanctuary is an animal shelter located in Mountain Center, California, in Riverside County, roughly 70 miles south of San Diego, and is one of 37 animal shelters and rescues serving the Riverside County area. For over 45 years, Living Free has rescued dogs and cats from overcrowded county shelters, offering care and second chances until they find loving homes. The sanctuary spans 155 acres and also runs a unique Equine Therapy program that uses the bond between horses and people for healing, averaging around 115 adoptions and 120 intakes each year. Visitors can book a free tour to see the rescue work firsthand, and the organization is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday.
