Rondout Valley Animals for Adoption is an animal shelter located in Accord, New York, in Ulster County, about 60 miles north of Albany. It was founded by Sue Sternberg, who has worked in animal shelters and as a dog trainer since 1981 and was recognized with the APDT's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. The shelter she founded was featured in the HBO documentary "Shelter Dogs," and Sternberg went on to develop widely used canine behavior assessment techniques, including the Assess-A-Pet Protocol for evaluating aggression thresholds in dogs. Eleven other animal shelters and rescues also serve Ulster County, NY, alongside Rondout Valley Animals for Adoption.
