Golden Empire Humane Society, known as AnimalSave, is a golden retriever rescue based in Grass Valley, California, located in Nevada County, where six other animal shelters and rescues also operate. Situated about 50 miles southwest of Sacramento, AnimalSave is Nevada County's longest-running animal rescue organization, having served the community for 50 years. It operates the community's only low-cost spay and neuter clinic to help reduce pet overpopulation, and it works to find loving homes for cats and dogs, having placed almost 200 animals in forever homes and spayed or neutered nearly 1,500 companion animals in 2025 alone.

Applicants must complete an adoption application and agreement form for the specific animal, and are screened to ensure a good placement; adopters must be a responsible adult, puppies cannot go to homes with children under five, and all animals are spayed/neutered and vaccinated before adoption.
