About this shelter

Animal Protective Foundation in Scotia, NY

The Animal Protective Foundation is an animal shelter located in Scotia, New York, in Schenectady County, about 15 miles southeast of Albany, and is one of four animal shelters or rescues serving that county. Founded in 1931, the organization has spent over 90 years providing shelter, veterinary care, and adoption services to companion animals, caring for roughly 5,000 animals annually at an average cost of about $250 per animal. Its mission centers on ensuring every companion animal is cared for, loved, and given the chance to find a forever home, offering adoption programs for dogs, cats, and small animals alongside spay/neuter services, a Canine Academy, pet wellness clinics, and community outreach such as a pet food pantry and financial assistance for veterinary bills. The shelter also supports the community through volunteer and foster programs, lost-and-found services, and resources for pet owners facing surrender or end-of-life decisions for their pets.
