Adoption Process
Adoptions are by appointment only, requiring a call to arrange a visit; animals are vetted, vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and chipped before adoption, and the shelter works with each visitor to match them with a suitable dog or cat, with a return policy if it isn't a good fit.

Fur and Feather Animal Assistance, Inc. is a no-kill animal shelter located in Datil, New Mexico, in Catron County, roughly 130 miles northeast of Albuquerque, and two other animal shelters or rescues also operate within Catron County. Established in the fall of 2003, Fur and Feather operates as a permanent residential sanctuary on a 90-acre facility, caring for dogs, cats, and equines such as horses, donkeys, and mules, offering not just adoption services but a forever home for animals who are older, disabled, or otherwise hard to place. The organization's mission is to alleviate animal suffering by providing sanctuary from abuse, neglect, and homelessness, to end the killing of healthy animals as a method of population control, and to teach that animals are intrinsically valuable and deserving of respect and compassion. To date, Fur and Feather has spayed or neutered more than 1,500 animals and matched hundreds of them with loving families, while also serving as part of a network of shelters providing safe haven for pets belonging to victims of domestic violence.
