Adoption Process

The process of adopting animals from the shelter is straightforward. The adoption fee is $50 for all animals, which includes the cost of spaying or neutering. Each adopted animal will receive several benefits, including a certificate of examination from the Jackson County Veterinary Society, which entitles the adopter to a complimentary health exam. Additionally, the animals come with initial vaccinations, preventative worming, and spaying or neutering, depending on the animal's age. Adopters will also receive a pet name tag from Two Dogs Dancing. For an additional fee of $15, a microchip can be included for the new pet.

Jackson County Animal Shelter in Gautier, MS

The Jackson County Animal Shelter, founded in 1985, is the sole animal shelter in the county. It is situated on three acres next to the County soccer complex on Audubon Lane in Gautier, Mississippi, just off Highway 90. The shelter is responsible for all animal control services across the county's municipalities. The facility can house up to 154 medium-sized animals, including cats and dogs, as well as four larger animals, such as goats and horses. Animal control officers are dedicated to serving the unincorporated areas of the county. They work regular hours but remain on call during nights, weekends, and holidays to respond to emergencies, including dog bite incidents and reports of rabid animals. The shelter facilitates nearly 100 pet adoptions each month; however, for every animal that is adopted, five new animals arrive at the facility.
