Save A Dog is a dog rescue based in Framingham, Massachusetts, in Middlesex County, roughly 15 miles east of Cambridge and about 33 other animal shelters and rescues also call Middlesex County home. Incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1999, the organization takes in dogs of all breeds, sizes, and shapes who have become homeless, working with shelters and rescue partners both in Massachusetts and out of state to save dogs from areas with pet overpopulation. To date it has rescued and placed over 8,000 dogs, relying on both a shelter facility and foster homes to house and showcase animals before adoption. Save A Dog blends conventional veterinary care with homeopathy, cautions adopters against over-vaccination, offers on-site puppy kindergarten classes, and requires obedience training and an adoption contract designed to ensure dogs never re-enter the shelter system; it is privately funded through donations, adoption fees, and fundraisers.

Adoption process

Applicants must fill out and submit an adoption application before visiting any dogs; if approved as a match, the shelter sends next steps including reference checks, and applicants then meet the dog with all decision-makers present, pay a $100 non-refundable deposit to hold the dog, and must be ready to take it home within 24 hours.
