Adoption Process

The adoption process begins with an interview between the prospective adopter and an adoption representative, along with the animal. Following this, applicants are required to provide two personal references, a veterinarian reference, and proof of home ownership if applicable, or approval from their landlord. Upon adoption, the animal will be sent home with age-appropriate vaccinations, and will be spayed or neutered if it is of the appropriate age. If not, the adopter will receive a free spay/neuter certificate for our veterinarian. The adoption fee for dogs starts at $250, which may vary based on the dog's age, breed, and medical history. For cats, the adoption fee begins at $150, also depending on age, breed, and medical history. Kittens have an adoption fee starting at $175.

Quincy Animal Shelter in Quincy, MA

The Quincy Animal Shelter is an entirely volunteer-operated organization that depends on the support of volunteers and the community. Established as a non-profit charity in Massachusetts in November 1999, we are also recognized as a 501(c)(3) charity by the Internal Revenue Service. Since our inception, we have successfully placed over 7,500 cats and dogs into loving homes throughout Massachusetts and New England. As a "no kill" shelter, we are committed to finding suitable homes for all animals in our care. Each animal receives age-appropriate vaccinations, is microchipped, and is spayed or neutered before being adopted into a forever family. Providing this level of care requires a dedicated team of volunteers, an active management team, and significant financial resources. Our annual budget is approximately $250,000, which supports our efforts to assist the dogs and cats in Quincy. We invite you to explore our Volunteer and Wish List pages to learn how you can contribute. The Shelter has a limited capacity of 12 dogs and between 15 to 25 cats, depending on their ages and conditions. Our aspiration is to expand our facility in order to enhance our mission and better meet the ongoing needs of the community and the animals we serve.
