The Equihab Foundation in North East, MD
The Equihab Foundation is a 501(c)3 animal shelter based in North East, Maryland, in Cecil County—an area home to 3 other animal shelters and rescues, and located about 10 miles northeast of Newark, Delaware. Founded in 2006, Equihab's mission is to reduce the suffering and unnecessary death of horses through educational programs, guest speakers, owner support, a free Blanket Loaner Bank, and networking owners with resources. The organization is 100% volunteer-based and 100% foster-home based, housing horses that must be directly taken into its care with foster families in and around Cecil County rather than at a leased public shelter or stable. This low-overhead model ensures donations go directly toward helping horses rather than rent.
