Halfway Home Pet Rescue in Caribou, ME
Halfway Home Pet Rescue is a feline-focused rescue organization based in Caribou, Maine, located in Aroostook County, which is home to 6 other animal shelters and rescues, and sits roughly 150 miles south of Bangor. The organization is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and finding homes for stray and abandoned cats and kittens from Caribou and surrounding communities that aren't eligible for admission to other area shelters, providing medical care and social/emotional rehabilitation in what it calls a "half way home." It also runs low-cost spay/neuter clinics for the general public throughout the year and partners with the Central Aroostook Humane Society to address cat overpopulation in the region. Beyond its core feline mission, the rescue also helps with rehoming other animals such as dogs, ducks, and chickens when possible.
