Adoption Process

The adoption process includes completing an application and signing a contract, along with a spay/neuter agreement if the pet is too young at the time of adoption. The adoption fee for male dogs is $30, while female dogs have a fee of $35. For cats, the adoption fee is $15 for males and $25 for females.

The Lafourche Parish Animal Shelter is a government-operated facility situated in Thibodaux, Louisiana. It serves the entire parish, which has a population of approximately 90,000 residents. The shelter has an average annual intake of 3,000 dogs and cats. We actively welcome and encourage participation from rescue groups to help save more animals, as well as engage volunteers, fosters, and adopters. The Lafourche Parish Animal Shelter also facilitates appointments for residents to access a low-cost spay/neuter program, which includes a $50 voucher. Our aim is to transform Lafourche Parish into a low-kill shelter in the future by addressing and reducing pet overpopulation throughout the parish.
