Adoption Process

The adoption process begins with the submission of an adoption application, which will be processed within 2 to 3 business days. Once approved, applicants will schedule a meeting with the pet. If the applicant already owns a dog, it is encouraged to bring that dog along to ensure both animals are compatible. If the applicant is approved to adopt the animal, they will need to visit the facility to sign the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee, which is $85 for dogs and $35 for cats. During this visit, they will also receive important medical information and paperwork for their new pet. Lastly, a photo will be taken to share on Facebook to celebrate the adoption.

The South Bend Animal Resource Center (SBARC) serves as an open admission municipal animal control shelter and a community center focused on animal welfare. I am Sue, the Volunteer Coordinator at the Shelter. My role involves engaging the community in our efforts to provide comfort to animals while they await adoption. Involving volunteers with the animals reduces their stress and increases the likelihood of attracting potential adopters. With a maximum of 20 adoption kennels available, creating a supportive environment for the animals can significantly expedite their journey to finding a forever home.
