American Greyhound is an animal shelter located in Dyer, Indiana, in Lake County, about 25 miles north of Chicago, IL, and one of 15 other animal shelters and rescues also serving Lake County. It is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to helping retired racing greyhounds, Spanish galgos, lurchers, and other sighthounds in need, relying entirely on volunteers, foster homes, and donations to keep the organization running. Volunteers welcome these dogs into their homes, often introducing them to home life for the first time, and provide veterinary care and other essentials while working to place each dog in a loving, forever home. The organization also hosts an annual Winning Hearts Benefit Gala to support its mission.
