Hinsdale Humane Society has been saving lives since 1947, making it one of the longstanding animal welfare organizations in DuPage County, Illinois. Located about 10 miles west of Naperville, it is one of 18 animal shelters and rescues serving the DuPage County area. The shelter maintains a save rate of around 95-98.5%, among the highest in the country, and finds homes for dogs, cats, and small critters alike. Applicants must be 21 or older, bring valid picture ID and any lease/HOA pet policy documents, and bring all household members to meet the animal; they complete an online adoption application (separate ones for dogs, cats, or critters), then visit the shelter during adoption hours on a first-come, first-served basis since no appointments are needed for animals at the shelter.
