Greater Chicago Ferret Association in Westchester, IL

The Greater Chicago Ferret Association (GCFA) is a ferret rescue located in Westchester, Illinois, in Cook County, roughly 15 miles east of Chicago, where 70 other animal shelters and rescues also operate. For over 30 years, GCFA has served as the only not-for-profit, no-kill ferret rescue and organization in Chicagoland, providing health care and vaccinations to more than 10,000 ferrets to date. Its mission is to educate animal lovers about ferret ownership and to care for neglected, abused and abandoned ferrets, sheltering hundreds of them each year with the help of dedicated volunteers and foster caretakers. The organization's adoption program aims to place ferrets in loving forever homes where they can thrive.

Adoption process

Applicants must complete an online adoption application before any in-person visit (no walk-ins), after which the adoption committee reviews it (taking 1-2 weeks) and contacts the applicant to schedule an appointment; adopters must also have an approved cage, ferret-proof their home, and pay an adoption fee.
