Street Tails Animal Rescue (STAR) is a rescue organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, about 2 miles southwest of the city center. Founded in 2001, it is a Philly-based nonprofit dedicated to giving overlooked, homeless, and abandoned dogs a second chance, operating out of a small, kennel-based facility where each dog receives medical care, enrichment, and one-on-one attention. Visits are by appointment only to keep the space calm and quiet for the dogs, and approved adopters meet dogs individually so each match gets proper time and care. The shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday from 12:00 to 5:00 PM.

Applicants fill out an application (processed first-come, best-fit), must be over 21 with valid ID and no animal cruelty/violent crime convictions, and undergo a background check along with veterinary/reference and housing verification; once approved, they meet the dog and adoption begins with a two-week trial period, with adoption fees ranging $295-$500.
