About this shelter

PAWS Adoption Center in Philadelphia, PA

PAWS Adoption Center is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, about 1 mile west of the city center. It is open Monday through Friday from 12:00–6:00 PM, Saturday from 11:00 AM–6:00 PM, and Sunday from 11:00 AM–5:00 PM. As the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), it is the city's largest rescue partner and works to make Philadelphia a place where every healthy and treatable pet is guaranteed a home, rescuing animals primarily from the city shelter with a focus on adult dogs, kittens, cats recovering from illness, and small animals. All pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and examined by a veterinarian before adoption, and the organization also runs low-cost spay/neuter and wellness clinics to help keep pets and families together.

Adoption process

Prospective adopters browse available pets and submit an online adoption application listing the specific pet(s) they're interested in; PAWS uses a conversation-based matchmaking process considering factors like energy level and experience, and approved applications are valid for 3 months, with adoption fees ranging from $25-$300 depending on animal type and age.
