Speranza Animal Rescue in Mechanicsburg, PA

Speranza Animal Rescue is a nonprofit, 100% volunteer-run rescue, rehabilitation center, and sanctuary located in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, about 10 miles northeast of Harrisburg. Set on a 17.5-acre horse farm, it takes in animals—mainly dogs—from owner surrenders, high-kill shelter euthanasia lists, and severe cases of abuse and neglect, and is an all-breed rescue with a focus on Pit Bulls and other Bully Breeds. Every animal receives full veterinary care regardless of cost, and those with behavioral issues too severe for safe rehoming are given a permanent home on the farm rather than being turned away. Funded entirely by donations, Speranza is open daily from 8:00 AM–2:00 PM and 5:30–7:00 PM.

Adoption process

Applicants must submit an adoption application, pass a reference and home check process, meet the dog and any resident pets, and complete a home visit before signing an adoption contract; there is a $300 adoption donation and requirements include being 21+, living within a two-hour drive of Mechanicsburg, PA, and providing landlord permission if renting.
