About this shelter

Almost Home Animal Sanctuary in Limekiln, PA

Almost Home Animal Sanctuary is a nonprofit animal shelter located in Limekiln, Pennsylvania, about 6 miles west of Reading. Founded in 2003 by Tara Wahl, it began with a focus on large-breed dogs, including Molosser breeds like Neapolitan Mastiffs, and has since expanded to help dogs of all sizes, exotic cats, and horses. AHAS operates on a foster care model, with every animal fostered, evaluated, and thoughtfully matched with adopters rather than rushed into placement. Beyond rescue and adoption, the organization also offers dog training and behavioral rehabilitation services, drawing on years of experience working with dogs that have significant behavioral and aggression issues.
