Humane Pennsylvania is a humane society located in Reading, Pennsylvania, about 2 miles south of the city, and is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, seven days a week. The organization empowers people to increase their capacity to care for animals so that all animals are healthy, safe, and treated humanely. It operates two adoption centers, an accredited veterinary hospital, affordable wellness care and boarding services, community support programs, and emergency and disaster response services. Available pets include cats, dogs, and critters, and the organization also hosts community events such as Walk for the Animals, Pints for Pups, and Art for Arf's Sake to support its animal-care programs.

Adoption process

Browse available pets online, optionally fill out an adoption interest form in advance, then visit a Freedom Center (Reading) or Lewin Adoption Center (Lancaster) in person on a first-come, first-served basis; adopters must be 18+ with a valid ID, and after meeting an adoption counselor and completing paperwork (about one hour), you can bring your new pet home the same day.
