Southold Animal Shelter in Peconic, NY

Southold Animal Shelter, located in Peconic, New York, is operated by the North Fork Animal Welfare League, a no-kill dog and cat rescue shelter serving the east end of Long Island. It was the first municipal shelter on Long Island to spay and neuter every animal prior to adoption, the first to institute professional evaluation and temperament testing for sheltered animals, and the first to provide a food pantry program for pets of needy residents in the community. The shelter serves homeless, lost, and death-row dogs, cats, and other animals, and has maintained 100% satisfaction on every professional inspection for the last two decades while boasting one of the highest adoption rates and lowest euthanasia rates of any municipal shelter in the country. It is open daily from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Sunday, and is located roughly 30 miles northwest of New Haven, CT.
