It is a nonprofit 501(c)3 founded by a Native American woman, operated entirely by volunteers and donations, and rehabilitates around 900 wild animals annually with an 88% release rate, saving an estimated 1,000 wildlife each year through rescue and rehabilitation. The organization holds a state permit for native Missouri mammals and a USFW permit for birds of prey such as owls, hawks, and falcons, and it runs a free public hotline—fielding about 3,000 calls a year—to educate callers on coexisting with wildlife, reuniting orphaned animals, and performing humane evictions. Wild Souls also partners with the Missouri Department of Conservation, Animal Control, park rangers, and schools on community education and conservation outreach, including its "Shop with a Conservation Agent" program for local children interested in conservation.
