About this shelter

Cookeville Putnam County Animal Shelter in Cookeville, TN

The Cookeville Putnam County Animal Shelter, located at 2650 Gainesboro Grade in Cookeville, Tennessee—about 50 miles southwest of Murfreesboro—accepts every animal from Putnam County and never turns one away, caring for dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, and other domesticated pets. The shelter's Adoption Outreach program works to match adoptable animals with loving, lifetime homes, and its Spay/Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) helps local pet owners vaccinate and sterilize their animals to curb pet overpopulation. Through its Helping Hands Program, staff visit classrooms to teach humane treatment of animals and welcome group tours at the shelter, while also partnering with Putnam County law enforcement on animal control and cruelty investigations. The shelter is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 12:00–5:00 PM, and Tuesday and Thursday from 12:00–6:00 PM.
