About this shelter

Friends of Charlton Animal Shelter in Charlton, MA

Friends of Charlton Animal Shelter (FOCAS) is a nonprofit support group for the Charlton Municipal Animal Shelter in Charlton, Massachusetts, located about 15 miles northeast of Worcester. The shelter itself, built in 2011 through a combination of FOCAS fundraising, volunteer labor, and town funds, houses Charlton's stray dogs and cats until they are reclaimed by their owners or transferred to local rescue organizations. FOCAS raises money through donations, memberships, events, and grants to fund special equipment, animal welfare and educational programs, and public awareness efforts around animal health and cruelty issues; its Lucy's Fund specifically helps cover veterinary costs for strays with contagious conditions like mange or upper respiratory infections. The shelter is open to the public Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
