About this shelter

Pit Bull Happenings, Inc. in Port Richey, FL

Pit Bull Happenings, Inc. is a pit bull rescue based in Port Richey, Florida, in Pasco County, about 25 miles south of Tampa, where 10 other animal shelters and rescues are also located. The organization describes itself as an animal welfare group working to bring communities together through leadership, education, rescue of the American Pit Bull Terrier and other dogs, community involvement, and awareness. Its focus has shifted toward dog ownership retention, helping struggling pet owners keep their pets by offering assistance with food, daily care needs, or financial help for veterinary care rather than surrendering them. The rescue also works to reunite lost "stray" dogs in county shelters with their owners before the state's legal holding period expires, and it maintains that visual breed identification and canine DNA testing are unreliable, so dogs are evaluated on individual behavior and personality rather than assumed breed.
