About this shelter
Sunflower Sanctuary Animal Rescue in Tijeras, NM
Sunflower Sanctuary Animal Rescue is a 501(c)3 rescue organization based in Tijeras, New Mexico, about 25 miles northwest of Albuquerque. Founded in October 2008 by Hurricane Katrina survivor Cynthia Dares, the sanctuary provides a permanent, loving home for elderly, sick, and neglected animals that can no longer be placed in a traditional home. Cynthia shares her home with senior dogs age 10 and older, along with mini horses, horses, donkeys, and goats that would otherwise face rejection or euthanasia due to age, illness, or neglect. The sanctuary has saved over 350 animals to date and operates entirely on donations to cover the day-to-day care these animals need.
