The Humane Society of Missouri is headquartered at 1201 Macklind Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri, and is committed to the prevention of abuse and neglect of animals through adoption, veterinary care, rescue, and rehabilitation. It operates the Animal Cruelty Task Force to investigate reports of animal abuse or neglect, and its network includes Longmeadow Rescue Ranch, a safe haven for horses and farm animals, and the Animal Medical Center of Mid-America (AMCMA) for veterinary services. The shelter offers adoptable dogs and cats of many breeds and ages, along with humane education programs, youth camps, and volunteer opportunities. It is open Monday through Friday 12:00–6:00 PM, Saturday 10:00 AM–5:00 PM, and Sunday 12:00–4:00 PM, and is located about 15 miles east of St. Louis, MO.

Visitors must be at least 18 with photo ID, submit a completed Adoption Interest Form in person at least 30 minutes before closing, and complete an adoption application that can take 45 minutes or longer; no reservation is needed to visit the adoption centers.
