The Humane Society of North Central Florida is a no-kill, 501(c)(3) humane society located in Gainesville, Florida, about 60 miles northeast of Jacksonville. Its mission is to eliminate the needless euthanasia of healthy and treatable pets in North Central Florida, a goal it has pursued for more than 50 years by bringing together several long-standing local rescue organizations to streamline resources for homeless animals. The organization saves lives through adoption, foster care, low-cost veterinary and spay/neuter services, and community outreach and education, and it is fully privately funded, relying on volunteers, donors, and thrift store shoppers rather than government or national organization support. It is open Monday 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, Tuesday through Thursday 8:00 AM–5:30 PM, and Friday and Saturday 9:30 AM–5:30 PM.
