Adoption Process

The adoption process includes submitting an application, completing a home check, participating in a meet and greet, and signing an adoption contract. The adoption fees are as follows: dogs are $150, puppies under 9 months are $250, and cats and kittens are $75.

Service Areas

Houston Cares is based in Houston but operates with rescue and foster homes throughout the metropolitan area. We have adoptive families located nationwide and can arrange transportation for available dogs and cats.

Houston Cares Animal Rescue, previously known as Westbury CARE, is a dedicated 501(c)(3) organization comprised of passionate animal lovers committed to making a positive impact for animals in Houston. What started as a small group of neighbors in the Westbury area working to assist local animals has evolved into a nonprofit rescue organization, driven by the significant need for animal support in Houston. Despite our expansion, Houston Cares strives to maintain a community-oriented atmosphere, emphasizing that meaningful change requires the collective efforts of the people of Houston. With over a million stray animals estimated to be in the city, we recognize that effective change will involve a comprehensive approach that includes rescue operations, education, spay/neuter initiatives, and legislative advocacy. We believe that collaboration within the rescue community enhances the welfare of animals and facilitates visible change. We take pride in being an integral part of the Houston rescue community and invite you to support our mission through fostering, volunteering, adopting, or donating.
