Adoption Process
The cost to adopt a dog varies based on age and type. Puppies aged 0 to 6 months are available for $250, adult dogs over 6 months for $125, VIP dogs for $50, and senior dogs aged 7 years and older for $50. A valid picture ID is required to adopt an animal from the SPCA of Texas. The following services and items are included in a dog adoption: spay or neuter surgery, 30 days of pet health insurance provided by PetHealth, a physical examination, a health evaluation, a behavior assessment, vaccinations for distemper, kennel cough (Bordetella), and rabies (if the dog is at least 4 months old), a rabies tag, a starter bag of Hill's Science Diet dog food, flea and tick treatment, a heartworm test for adults, heartworm preventative for puppies and adults, free heartworm treatment for heartworm-positive dogs through a partnership with VCA Animal Hospitals, de-worming treatment, a microchip, follow-up support, a free health examination within fourteen days of adoption also through VCA Animal Hospitals, and a temporary leash. For cat adoptions, the cost is $125 for kittens, while for adult cats, you can name your own price and take advantage of a two-for-one offer. A valid picture ID is also required for cat adoptions. Included in a cat adoption are: spay or neuter surgery, 30 days of pet health insurance provided by PetHealth, a physical examination, a health evaluation, a behavior assessment, vaccinations for Feline Rhinotracheitis, Calici, and Pan-Leukopenia as appropriate, kennel cough (Bordetella) vaccination, rabies vaccination (if the cat is at least 4 months old), a rabies tag, a starter bag of Hill's Science Diet cat food, flea and tick treatment, de-worming treatment, a microchip, follow-up support, a free health examination within fourteen days of adoption through VCA Animal Hospitals, and a temporary carrier.
