Adoption Process
The Adoption Process Once you have selected your ideal pet, a counselor will guide you through the necessary paperwork. If your new pet has not been spayed or neutered, arrangements will be made for surgery at a local veterinary clinic the next business day, with pick-up scheduled for the following day. To complete the adoption, you must bring photo identification that includes your current address. If your ID does not have a current address, you will need to provide an alternative form of proof, such as a piece of mail or vehicle registration. Payment for the adoption will be collected at the time of the adoption. We encourage you to spend time with your new pet before finalizing the adoption to ensure a good match. Additionally, please allow time for the adoption paperwork to be processed, especially during busy evening and weekend hours. Adoption Fees Kittens up to 6 months of age: $125 Cats 6 months to 3 years of age: $75 Cats 3 years to 8 years of age: $50 There is no adoption fee for cats over 8 years of age. Puppies up to 6 months of age: $250 Dogs 6 months to 3 years of age: $150 There is no adoption fee for dogs over 10 years of age. Adoption fees for exotics, birds, and small animals vary based on type, breed, age, and condition. What's Included When you adopt, you will receive your new pet along with spay and neuter surgery for cats and dogs, age-appropriate vaccinations, a general dewormer to eliminate intestinal parasites, flea control protection for 30 days, a microchip for identification, a certificate for a free veterinary exam at any participating clinic, and 30 days of complimentary Sheltercare Health Insurance, provided you have a valid email address.
