Odies Place Animal Rescue in dartmouth, MA
Odie's Place Animal Shelter was founded in 2014 by Brian and Kerrie Harrington, along with a dedicated group of animal welfare advocates. The shelter is named in memory of Otis, their cherished shelter dog who passed away in January of that year. The primary mission of Odie's Place is to create a sanctuary for homeless animals, providing them with a second chance at the lives they deserve. Brian shares a personal message about their commitment to animal welfare: "Have you ever wondered where stray dogs and cats go when they are caught? Have you thought about the fate of lost or abandoned pets that are fortunate enough to be found by someone compassionate? In Southcoast Massachusetts, thousands of stray animals roam the streets, and many eventually end up in shelters. My dog Otis was one of those fortunate animals. We adopted him from a shelter, and he became a cherished friend and an integral part of our family. Although he passed away last January, his memory continues to inspire us. The opportunity for Otis to be part of our lives was largely due to luck. Unfortunately, many local shelters have policies that result in the euthanasia of adoptable animals, often due to age, lack of socialization, or extended stays in overcrowded facilities. We are determined to honor Otis's legacy and the joy he brought to our lives by establishing Odie's Place as a no-kill shelter in New Bedford. Our commitment is to ensure that every animal that enters our facility will eventually find a loving forever home. Every month, Southcoast Massachusetts sees thousands of animals enter shelters, most of which operate under kill policies. The harsh reality is that many healthy and well-behaved animals are euthanized simply to make space for incoming arrivals. Otis enriched our lives immensely, and we are dedicated to providing that same opportunity to others. Our sanctuary will uphold a no-kill policy, offering temporary shelter until each stray or abandoned animal is adopted into a forever family. No animal will be euthanized to create room for others."
