About this shelter

Habitat for Cats in Dartmouth, MA

Habitat for Cats is a cat rescue based in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, within Bristol County, where 18 other animal shelters and rescues also operate. It's a nonprofit, 501(c)(3), all-volunteer organization specializing in Trap-Neuter-Return of feral and community cats throughout Southeastern Massachusetts, providing trapping and sterilization programs to reduce the population of homeless cats and kittens. Friendly cats and kittens found in colonies are placed into foster care or transferred to licensed shelters for adoption, and the organization's goal is to rescue entire families—mother cats and all their kittens—together whenever possible. Located about 20 miles west of Warwick, Rhode Island, Habitat for Cats relies on its TNR, spay/neuter, and foster care and adoption programs to carry out its mission.

Adoption process

Adoption is a private, one-on-one process through foster homes rather than a traditional shelter; adopters work with a trained adoption counselor to be matched with a compatible cat, must review and sign an adoption contract in person, and pay a $200 adoption fee.
