Adoption Process
Grey Face Rescue aims to place our foster dogs into loving homes and families. We carefully match each dog with the right home to ensure a lifetime of love for both the pet and the adopter. Our adoption process, while it may seem lengthy or complicated, is designed with the best interests of our dogs in mind. We are dedicated to finding the most suitable homes for our dogs and ensuring that we match the right dog to your lifestyle. Our organization is entirely run by unpaid volunteers who devote their time to helping these dogs. The adoption process requires time, and we prioritize thoroughness to safeguard the future of each dog. We appreciate your understanding and patience as you navigate this process. The first step in the adoption process is to complete an adoption application. This application provides us with information about you, your lifestyle, training beliefs, and your background with animals. Once your application is received, our volunteers will review it to ensure all necessary information has been provided. If any information is missing, we will contact you to request additional details or to fill out a new application. If you rent your home, we will contact your landlord to confirm that you are allowed to have a dog and to inquire about any breed or size restrictions. If your landlord does not permit dogs, your application will be denied at this stage. For those adopting a bully breed, we will also verify with your insurance company that there are no breed restrictions in your policy. Next, our volunteers will reach out to the veterinary references you have provided to confirm that all your current pets are spayed or neutered and up to date on vaccinations. If you do not currently have any pets, we will ask about the care your previous pets received. This step will be skipped if you have never owned a pet. If we cannot verify the spay/neuter and vaccination status of your current or previous pets, we will pause processing your application until this information is provided. A volunteer from Grey Face Rescue will then contact you by phone to learn more about you and to ask any pertinent questions. As our dogs are housed in foster homes rather than a physical shelter, we do not arrange meetings until you have been approved through the adoption process. Once approved, a volunteer, typically the foster, will contact you to schedule a time for you to meet the dog(s) you are interested in. These meetings may take place at the foster's home or your residence. Approval as an adopter does not guarantee that you will be able to adopt a specific dog. For certain dogs, we may receive multiple applications, and we may allow several interested applicants to meet the dog before making a decision on the best fit. If the volunteer feels that you are not a suitable match for the dog during the meeting, you may be denied adoption of that particular dog, but you can still be considered for adopting another dog. If you decide to adopt a dog, you will need to sign an adoption contract and pay the adoption donation fee and a spay/neuter deposit, if applicable. At this point, you will officially become the owner of the dog. We will provide a few cups of the food the dog has been eating, a Grey Face Adoption tag, all medical and veterinary documents, a copy of the contract, and a transition packet to assist you in the adjustment process. The foster may also include specific toys or blankets that the dog has grown attached to. We have a two-week refund period; if you determine that the dog is not a suitable fit for your family and return the dog within this timeframe, we will refund your adoption donation. The adoption fee will be deposited upon receipt and will only be refunded if the dog is returned within the two-week period or any previously agreed-upon extension. If you encounter any issues with the dog at any point, please reach out to your designated contact person. A volunteer will respond to you as soon as possible. Our adoption contract includes a provision for a follow-up visit by one of our volunteers or representatives. Such a visit may be required if we believe the terms of the adoption contract are not being upheld. Grey Face Rescue is committed to the life, health, and well-being of every dog we place for the duration of the dog's life. If the adoption does not work out or if you need to rehome the dog, the contract stipulates that the dog must be returned to us. Please notify your contact person as soon as possible in such cases.
