Greyhound Pets of America is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 1987 with the mission of finding homes for retired racing greyhounds and educating the public about their suitability as pets. Greyhound Pets of America Minnesota (GPA MN) is a volunteer-driven organization based in the Twin Cities, focused on rescuing and placing these retired racers. All of our greyhounds are placed in foster homes, allowing them to adjust to their new lives after racing. This environment helps us assess the personality of each dog, enabling us to make informed matches with potential families. We evaluate each greyhound's compatibility with small animals, and many of our foster dogs successfully integrate into families that include other pets, such as cats. Our foster process has proven to be effective in creating successful matches between greyhounds and their new families.

Adopting from this shelter

Adoption process

The adoption process includes a fee of $450, the submission of an application, a personal interview, and the provision of personal references. Applicants will be matched with a suitable hound and will have the opportunity to meet the hound. If both parties are satisfied, an adoption contract and conditions of ownership will be signed. Please note that the adoption fee is non-refundable.
