About this shelter

Washington Alaskan Malamute Adoption League in Seattle, WA

WAMAL was established in 1998 by Cindy Neely to address the needs of Malamute Rescue in the greater Northwest, particularly in areas not covered by Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue. Since its inception, WAMAL has rescued approximately 100 Malamutes each year, totaling several hundred rescues to date. While the organization began with a small group of dedicated individuals, it is the ongoing support of numerous volunteers that enables the rescue efforts to continue.

Adoption process

Applications for adoption are accepted online. Following the submission, a home visit will be scheduled unless the potential adopter does not meet the qualifications. After the home visit is conducted and the evaluation form is completed online, we typically proceed with approval. The Adoption Team will then work to match the potential adopter with a dog that is deemed the best fit. We provide the adopter with profiles of available dogs, allowing them to either agree to meet a specific dog or decline that option. The adoption fee is set at $300, or $200 for seniors, which is collected at the time of adoption and held for a period of two weeks, or sometimes longer, until the adoption is finalized.

Service area
Our services are available in Washington State and Oregon. As per the national organization's guidelines, individuals must be residents of either state to adopt one of our rescued animals.
