Cats Breathe Cat Rescue & Sanctuary in Altadena, CA
Our mission is to alleviate feline suffering by providing shelter for homeless, abused, neglected, and abandoned cats rescued from municipal shelters. We focus on sterilizing stray and feral cats to combat overpopulation and offer essential medical care. As a long-term facility, we also care for unwanted and unadoptable cats and support individuals facing challenges in keeping their pets. We operate as a no-kill facility, meaning we only consider euthanasia for animals experiencing untreatable pain or suffering from severe disease. Our primary objective is to ensure that every adoptable cat or kitten in our care finds a loving forever home. Our Adoption Program is dedicated to rehabilitating and rehoming homeless cats. We assist former cat owners who need to surrender their pets for personal reasons, as well as prospective adopters looking to welcome a cat into their lives. Through our Spay/Neuter Program, we provide free or discounted spay and neuter services to cat owners in our service area, primarily targeting low-income individuals who cannot afford these essential services. The Sanctuary Program offers complimentary boarding for cats belonging to individuals who require temporary housing for their pets. Our clients typically include veterans from the local VA Hospital, individuals entering substance abuse treatment, and those undergoing cancer treatment or residing in homeless shelters. We maintain a Foster Care Network that offers temporary homes for cats in need. Additionally, we engage in fundraising and community events, and we provide educational classes on responsible pet ownership. New cat parents are required to complete a series of courses before adopting a cat. We also operate a Fire Cat and Natural Disaster Rescue Program to assist cats affected by emergencies. We accept all forms of donations to support our mission.
