Adoption Process

We invite you to explore our available animals for adoption. We strive to keep our listings current, meaning that if you see an animal on our site, there is an 80-90% likelihood that it is still available. Each animal's description includes contact information, which may direct you to the East County Animal Shelter (ECAS) phone number or the email/phone number of the volunteer fostering the animal. If you have any questions, please reach out using the contact information provided in the description. While emails sent to [email protected] will be answered, the Webmaster does not have personal knowledge of the animals and will simply forward your inquiry to the appropriate contact. If the animal is located at ECAS, please visit their facility to meet the animal and learn about their specific adoption process. ECAS is open daily from 11:30 AM to 5:30 PM, excluding holidays. For animals in foster care with TVAR, please complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website, and submit it to the foster volunteer listed in the animal’s description. We review each application carefully to identify the best match for the animal. Please note that we generally do not conduct adoptions outside our local area. All animals adopted through TVAR are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, de-wormed, free of fleas, and microchipped. Cats are tested for FIV and FeLV. Many of our pets come with a "packed bag" that may include items such as bedding, food, toys, leashes, and even complimentary training sessions with our professional trainers. Adoption fees vary depending on the species and typically range from $50 to $200. Puppies also require a $100 refundable training deposit. The foster volunteer can provide specific details regarding the animals in their care.

Service Areas

We primarily serve the Tri-Valley area, which includes Dublin, Pleasanton, Livermore, and nearby towns and cities. We welcome adopters from across the San Francisco Bay Area and slightly beyond. While we typically do not conduct out-of-area adoptions, we evaluate each applicant on a case-by-case basis.

Tri-Valley Animal Rescue in Pleasanton, CA

Tri-Valley Animal Rescue (TVAR), established in 1992, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that serves the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. Our primary focus is to support the East County Animal Shelter (ECAS) in Dublin, California, by helping pet owners locate their missing animals and assisting individuals in the adoption process. TVAR also facilitates the placement of animals from ECAS and other local shelters into foster care provided by our dedicated volunteers, while actively seeking permanent homes for these animals. Although we do not operate a physical facility, our committed volunteers help more than 1,000 animals find loving homes each year. We offer a range of volunteer programs, including a shelter program and four foster programs, and we are continually seeking additional volunteers, particularly foster caregivers. If you are interested in volunteering with us, please visit our volunteer page for more information.
