Adoption Process

The adoption fee for most cats and kittens is $95, though some may be priced higher or lower depending on specific circumstances. The adoption process includes completing an application, undergoing a home visit, providing a veterinary reference if possible, and signing an adoption contract. All cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, tested for common feline diseases, dewormed, and treated for fleas and ticks. We do not euthanize cats based on a positive status for FeLV or FIV; instead, we work to find suitable homes or sanctuaries for these cats as well.

Service Areas

CAT provides services in twelve counties in Virginia, which include Albemarle, Augusta, Buckingham, Culpeper, Cumberland, Fluvanna, Goochland, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Nelson, and Orange. Additionally, we may extend our assistance beyond these counties in special situations or to support other rescue organizations.

Cat Action Team in Charlottesville, VA

CAT is dedicated to advocating for and supporting cats whose caretakers are unable to provide for them, as well as for those living in areas where low-cost veterinary clinics or shelters are insufficient or nonexistent. Our efforts aim to help cats remain in their communities, thereby decreasing the number of cats that enter shelters and face euthanasia. We believe that all cats deserve to live peacefully within their colonies with proper care. The Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) program is the most effective and humane approach to achieving our objectives. This process involves humanely trapping feral cats, neutering them, vaccinating them, and returning them to their outdoor homes after they have recovered. To successfully implement this program, we will: Collaborate with local veterinary offices and clinics to ensure feral cats undergo TNR, working towards achieving nearly 100% sterilization of cat colonies. This includes providing financial assistance, transportation for the cats, and shelter for those recovering from surgery. Educate caretakers of cat colonies about the TNR process. Offer assistance to colony caretakers with food and shelter as needed. Make efforts to find caretakers for colonies that currently lack one. Identify and bring outdoor kittens and non-feral cats into foster care for socialization and eventual adoption. Maintain a record of cat colonies in central Virginia to monitor ongoing support requirements. Conduct annual assessments of colony size reduction or remediation to evaluate our progress toward achieving our goals.
