B.R.O.O.D Basset Rescue Of Old Dominion is a rescue organization based in Charlottesville, Virginia, in Albemarle County, about 70 miles southeast of Richmond. Founded in 1996, BROOD is now in its 30th year of rescue and has cared for and found homes for over 3,555 basset hounds and basset mixes through 2025, including dogs that were abused, neglected, or surrendered when owners could no longer care for them. The organization rescues basset hounds and basset mixes throughout Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, Delaware and parts of southern Pennsylvania, and adopts dogs out to qualified homes in those same areas. BROOD relies heavily on volunteers and foster homes to carry out its rescue work.

Prospective adopters submit an online application with a non-refundable $10 fee, undergo a veterinarian reference check and an in-home visit with all family members present, then are matched with a suitable dog by an Adoption Coordinator, and finally sign a contract and pay an adoption fee to complete the adoption.
