About this shelter

Cheatham County Animal Control in Pegram, TN

Cheatham County Animal Control is a government facility that handles approximately 2,200 animals each year, despite having the capacity to house only 50 at any given time. The team consists of just four staff members who manage a range of responsibilities, including cleaning, feeding, treating, bathing, and intake of animals, as well as responding to calls regarding loose animals, cases of cruelty, neglect, and other related issues. The staff is dedicated to saving as many animals as possible, despite limited resources. Cheatham County spans over 360 square miles and faces challenges with a significant number of unwanted animals. Compliance with vaccination, spay/neuter, and animal safety regulations is currently low. The organization is committed to leading both the staff and the community toward a culture change, a process that will require time—time that many animals do not always have. To provide the best care for the numerous animals received daily, we rely on rescues, adopters, donations, and educational efforts. Your support is crucial and greatly appreciated. We are striving to make Cheatham County a more animal-friendly community. The adoption fee for dogs and cats includes spaying or neutering, rabies vaccinations, and all other required vaccinations while the animals are in our care. If you are interested in volunteering, please call or visit us to fill out an application and learn how you can assist these animals.
