Adoption Process

The adoption process for a Good Dog consists of several steps. First, you will need to complete an application. Next, you will have a phone interview with the adoption coordinator assigned to your prospective dog. This will be followed by providing a veterinary reference and personal references. You will also participate in a phone interview with the dog's foster mother. A home visit will be conducted to assess your living environment. Finally, you will need to sign an adoption contract and pay an adoption fee of $525.00, which covers any transportation costs.

Good Dog Rescue in Enfield, CT

Good Dog Rescue is an all-breed rescue organization located in Enfield, Connecticut. Our team consists of dedicated volunteers from across the Eastern United States who are passionate about helping dogs that find themselves homeless through no fault of their own. Every day, loyal and loving dogs arrive at shelters in the South, either surrendered by their owners or found abandoned on the streets. We assess each dog’s temperament and compatibility with other pets and children. We also conduct health checks, ensuring that all dogs are current on vaccinations and spayed or neutered. Once evaluated, these dogs are placed in loving foster homes until they are adopted by their forever families. Our mission is to meet the unique needs of each dog and ensure they are placed in suitable, caring homes. In addition to rescuing homeless and abandoned dogs, Good Dog Rescue is committed to several important initiatives. We provide financial support to low-cost spay/neuter clinics in the South to help address pet overpopulation. We conduct community outreach in local schools to educate children and young adults about animal rescue and responsible pet ownership. We also partner with nonprofit organizations that train rescued dogs to assist individuals with disabilities. Over a dozen of our dogs have become certified service animals, enabling their handlers to lead more independent lives. We take pride in the work we do with our dogs and the positive impact we have on our local communities. Every month, many of our Southern dogs travel north to their new foster and forever homes. A USDA-licensed transport service operates weekly to facilitate this journey, meeting families at various locations along the Tennessee-New England route. Our long-distance adoptions involve direct transfers from the transport to the adoptive homes. We support these adoptions by sharing photos and information about each dog and facilitating conversations between adopters and foster parents. If a dog is in a foster home in New England, we are more than willing to arrange a pre-adoption meeting.
