Adoption Process
Our adoptable animals can be found on Petfinder, where we provide a link to our adoption application through Shelterluv. Additionally, there is a link on our veterinary hospital's website that directs users to the available animals on Petfinder. Our two founders personally review each application, making the decision to approve or deny based on specific criteria. Every applicant receives an email notifying them of their approval status or informing them that the animal has already been adopted. We offer guidance to potential adopters who may be uncertain about which type of animal they would like to meet. Applications are approved only if the animal will not be kept outdoors, except for barn cats adopted under a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program. All applicants must be at least 18 years old. We also assess the number of animals currently in the home, require veterinary references, and ensure that all pets are spayed or neutered, as well as up-to-date on vaccinations and preventative care. We communicate via email to maintain confidentiality among prospective adopters and to have a record for future reference. After initial correspondence, we arrange a meet-and-greet with the potential adopters. Some animals are housed in foster homes, while most reside at our veterinary facility. During these meet-and-greets, a counselor is present to answer any questions. If a family decides to adopt, they receive a go-home bag with essentials, including a supply of the current food, flea and tick preventative for one month, heartworm preventative for one month, and occasionally training treats or small cat toys, if available. Each animal also leaves with comprehensive medical information, including previous medical records from other clinics and details of any care provided while with us. All animals are microchipped, spayed or neutered, and vaccinated. Puppies may go home unaltered with a $75 deposit, which is refunded upon proof of spaying or neutering within six months. Every adopter is required to sign an adoption contract, and we are in the process of updating these documents. Payment options include cash, Venmo, or PayPal, and we are exploring the use of Square for credit or debit card transactions.
Service Areas
We provide services across several counties, including Barton, Ellsworth, Stafford, Rush, Rice, Reno, and Russell. Our organization facilitates out-of-state adoptions and has successfully placed dogs in homes throughout the country. We rescue dogs from rural shelters that require assistance in Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and occasionally Texas. Operating in a rural Midwest area, we face limited resources to address the community's need for animal services.
LADA Paws Rescue in Hoisington, KS
Our organization was established approximately four years ago and operates in conjunction with Hoisington Veterinary Hospital in Hoisington, Kansas. The clinic is owned by Lindsay Reif, who has a contract for handling stray cats and dogs in the area. After a three-day hold period, the city typically requires that these animals be euthanized. However, the owner of the hospital chose to rescue these stray animals and find them new homes. This initiative led to the formation of LADA Paws, founded by four individuals: Dr. Lindsay, our veterinarian; Amber, our kennel manager; Desirae, our office manager; and Arica, our groomer. We officially became a rescue organization in July 2021 and obtained our 501(c)(3) status later that year. In 2021, we successfully facilitated over 200 adoptions from January to December. As of September 2022, we have already achieved 198 adoptions. We are also expanding our efforts to include animals from Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, and occasionally Texas. Recently, we were gifted a transport van, which, after some minor repairs, will enable us to transport animals more efficiently than our personal vehicles. We are currently developing both short-term and long-term plans as we continue to learn and seek the best programs to support our mission.
