About this shelter

Leavenworth County Humane Society, Inc. in Basehor, KS

Leavenworth County aims to establish itself as a model for humane communities, ensuring that all animals are treated with kindness and that every pet finds a loving, permanent home. We hold the following beliefs: Animals are capable of experiencing pleasure and pain, and therefore deserve human compassion. Humans have a moral obligation to treat animals with care and respect. Many people wish to provide lifelong, appropriate care for their pets. Companion animals significantly enhance human well-being. There is a connection between violence, cruelty, and neglect toward animals and similar behaviors toward humans. Fostering compassion for animals promotes a culture of respect and kindness among people. Communities that prioritize humane treatment of animals attract responsible, law-abiding citizens, enhancing the overall quality of life for everyone.
