Adoption Process

Individuals interested in adopting a pet must complete an application. A volunteer processor will review the application and will contact you by phone to discuss the next steps and address any questions you may have. We will also reach out to your listed references and veterinarian. Please ensure that you inform your veterinarian and personal references in advance, granting us permission to communicate with them. Please note that we do not adopt to individuals under 21 years old. Our adoption services are available to residents of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Connecticut. We do not allow individuals to adopt a puppy or dog on behalf of someone else. Furthermore, we will not proceed with an adoption if you have dogs that are not on heartworm prevention or if you have unspayed or unneutered pets in your household. Once your application has been processed, the home visit coordinator will contact you to arrange an in-person visit or alternative methods, such as photos or video chat, to assess your living situation for the new pet. After a successful home visit, you will receive notification that your adoption application has been approved. This notification will include details regarding payment and an adoption contract, which must be completed and submitted before finalizing the adoption. The adoption is not considered complete until the contract is signed and dated, the adoption fee is paid, and you have taken possession of your new pet. If you do not sign and date the contract, the dog remains the legal property of Survivor's Paws Animal Rescue until the contract is fully executed, and the adoption can only be finalized after we have uploaded the veterinary records into our system and registered the microchip. All microchips are registered to adopters as primary, with Survivor's Paws Animal Rescue listed as secondary to ensure the safety of the pet should they become lost. You will receive information regarding when and where you can pick up your new pet. If your dog is arriving from a transport from the southern states, you can expect to meet them and a representative from Survivor's Paws Animal Rescue in White River Junction or another mutually agreed upon location, depending on the transport company used. If your dog is already located in the northeast at a foster home, you will be provided with details about when and where to pick them up. Please be aware that the adoption fee must be paid in full prior to picking up your new dog or puppy. Currently, we only accept payment via PayPal and do not accept other cash applications. The fee schedule is as follows: Puppies up to 1 year: $600 Adults aged 1 year to 6 years: $500 Seniors aged 6 years and older: $325 Adoption fees must be paid within 24 hours of receiving the adoption approval notice, along with a signed, dated, and agreed-upon adoption contract to reserve the dog for adoption. Please remember that the full adoption fee must be paid prior to picking up your new dog or puppy, and we only accept PayPal for this transaction.

Survivor's Paws Animal Rescue, Inc in West Lebanon, NH

My name is Shelley, and Survivor's Paws Animal Rescue, Inc. is named in honor of my dog, Survivor. He was just three years old and severely emaciated when I rescued him from a kill shelter in New York City. Survivor weighed only 32 pounds and had multiple sores on his body. After being pulled from the shelter, veterinary examinations revealed that his condition was due to neglect from his previous owners. In the spirit of collaboration among rescues, I responded to a call for help transporting a dog from New York City to Burlington, Vermont. Survivor received the necessary rides to reach his forever home. He was initially fostered in New York City before being transported to Hartford, Connecticut, and then to White River Junction, Vermont, where he was to meet a family from Burlington. Unfortunately, that family did not show up, which turned out to be their loss. Survivor was eventually quarantined and found his permanent home in the Upper Valley of New Hampshire. Initially, he did not understand grass and would lift his feet in confusion, which was amusing to witness. He thrived in his new environment, receiving multiple small meals throughout the day, and learned how to be a dog, enjoying hours of play with tennis balls. Survivor served as an ambassador for his breed and the rescue community. He had a loving nature and got along with all creatures, including dogs, cats, horses, chickens, goats, and even bees and humans of all sizes. He also had a fondness for smelling flowers. He participated in rescue missions and assisted with home visits alongside his forever mom. His calm demeanor made him an excellent temperament test dog, and he continued to enjoy playing with foster puppies even at the age of twelve. Survivor also went on missions to locate lost dogs. At twelve years old, he embarked on his last mission to find a six-month-old puppy named Avery, who had gone missing during a transport. Survivor and his mom spent three days hiking through the woods of White River Junction, Vermont, in search of Avery. They began the search after Survivor's mom learned of Avery's plight late one night following a rescue mission in Boston. On Christmas night, after days of searching, we received the miracle we had hoped for: Avery was caught in a trap borrowed from the Upper Valley Humane Society. The family that allowed us to set up the trap was incredibly supportive, and their efforts led to Avery's capture. Survivor showed remarkable resilience as we navigated the snow and cold during the search. To celebrate his hard work, I prepared a special Christmas dinner for him. I am Survivor's mom, and he is one of the many reasons I am dedicated to animal rescue.
