Marion County Humane Society in Knoxville, IA

The mission of the Marion County Humane Society is to provide humane care for homeless pets, facilitate their return to current owners, or place them in new, loving homes. The organization is committed to educating the public about responsible pet ownership and the significance of spaying and neutering pets. Established in November 1986, the society initially operated from the former city dog pound. Over the years, it has successfully reunited lost pets with their owners, raised public awareness about spaying and neutering, and contributed to a significant reduction in the number of abandoned pets. Volunteers have successfully placed over 5,000 unwanted dogs and cats. In October 2000, the decision was made to close the MCHS due to the facility's deteriorating condition. However, after raising over $230,000, the society opened a new facility in June 2008.
